Chittenden County Sheriff’s Office Title VI Notice to Public/Beneficiaries/Participants
Chittenden County Sheriff’s Office hereby gives notice that it is the policy of the Office to assure full compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, E.O. 12898, and related Nondiscrimination authorities in all programs and activities. Title VI requires that no person in the United States shall, on the grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, low-income or LEP, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity for which the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Office receives Federal financial assistance.
Any person who believes they have been aggrieved has a right to file a formal complaint with the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Office. Any such complaint must be in writing and filed with the Office Title VI Coordinator within one hundred eighty (180) days following the date of the alleged discriminatory occurrence. Written or faxed complaints must be signed by the complainant. Complaints submitted by telephone or unsigned written or faxed complaints must be followed by a complaint in writing, signed by the complainant or his/her representative within 10 business days of the initial verbal/unsigned complaint. If the complainant requires assistance to submit a written document, a member of the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Office will interview the complainant and assist the person in converting verbal complaints to writing. This document must be signed by the complainant or his/her representative.
